Q46. When should I postpone or avoid a lifting treatment?
Typical reasons to postpone lifting are open wounds or severe acne in the treatment area and implanted devices such as a pacemaker or defibrillator. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, diabetes, autoimmune disease, epilepsy and herpes are classified in manufacturer data as groups that have not been evaluated or studied. Whether any of these apply is judged by the medical team after reviewing your medical history at consultation.

You need to share your medications and treatment history because some medicines raise the risk of bleeding and bruising, and previous filler or implants affect the choice of treatment area and method. It is a good idea to share not only prescription medicines but also over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbal remedies and supplements. Do not stop any medication on your own; discuss it with the prescribing doctor and the medical team.

The common side effects of lifting are redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness when pressed, and they are generally temporary. Burns or blisters, nerve symptoms such as numbness or tingling, and uneven skin surface have rarely been reported, and duration and severity vary between individuals. If symptoms last longer than expected or seem unusual, contact the clinic where you were treated.

The basics of home care after treatment are 3 steps: gentle cleansing, moisturizer applied 3 times thicker than usual, and sunscreen even indoors. CELITA Clinic also advises avoiding alcohol, smoking, saunas, swimming and strenuous exercise for 1 week and not rubbing the treated area. Recovery speed varies between individuals, so also check the aftercare card for the treatment you received.

There is no single answer for how often to get lifting; it is decided at consultation considering how long results last for each device, your skin condition and when results appear. Manufacturers state that facial results from Ultherapy can last a year or more and Thermage FLX results 1-2 years, but results vary by individual. Rather than repeating at very short intervals, it is usual to wait and see results from the previous treatment appear before deciding.
